The Bay Street Ale House

Welcome to the Ale House

About Us

The Bay St. Ale house first opened its doors on St Patrick?s day of 1996. it was a proud day (and absolutely necessary since we had run out of money) for a couple of friends who had moved over from Seattle after realizing the lack of good pubs in the south Kitsap area. We had found an old run down and defunct bar called "the port of call" that was cheap and trashed but also right on the waterfront in the downtown corridor of port orchard. After completely gutting it-down to new wiring, plumbing and then new sheet rock, we began to fashion our idea of a comfortable casual neighborhood pub. After a few snags and delays, lots of blood and guts (and of course copious quantities of beer) we finally spent our last few dollars on several kegs of great ale and opened up.

It was a first in Kitsap county for a couple of things; not only were we the first smoke free bar in the area (long before the law was passed making it smoke free everywhere) but more importantly it was the first place in Kitsap to really focus on the exceptional Northwest craft brewing movement that we are all so fortunate to be privy to. In fact, that is all we carry on draft- only local craft beers, and we always rotate our selection, bringing in seasonals, brewers reserves and specialty ales to always give you something interesting to try -no bud or miller taking up any of our handles (although we do carry the basic American "macro-brews" & a few imports in the bottle for those who don't truly love great beer). We also make what some say is the best pizza in Kitsap county (a few "best of south Kitsap" awards lends itself to that inclination), we hand toss our own dough recipe and prepare, in-house daily, fresh meats and vegetables to top them with. We use only whole milk mozzarella and top quality ingredients -yes, it might cost more than your generic chain crap but we take pride in knowing it will be one of the finest pizzas you'll ever have.

In addition to an exceptional ale selection and great food, you'll also notice what a laid back place this is- good tunes in the background, local sports on the tele, billiards in the loft and, in the upstairs bar (only open on Friday & Saturday) we have only the finest spirits (including Port Orchard?s first premium well) a piano (for those who know how to play) and the only traditional steel tip dart board (that we know of) in the area. What you won't find is the trappings of a typical tavern/dive bar such as pull tabs or karaoke- just great beer, great food and good friends!
